btw it is SO funny to me that harrow the ninth sets up the question of gideon's parentage by obscuring g1deon's name through most of the book. and if you're able to piece any of it together early you're like hang on..... a lyctor named gideon.... who MUST have known commander wake...... biblically, dare i say........ and he's a ginger......... and then the actual reveal happens and it's like oh actually that's all unrelated. yeah wake did have a torrid affair with two people in the same body but that's not relevant to her pregnancy. you see actually there was a nefarious threesome and they stole god's sperm so wake could self-inseminate. yeah g1deon kind of just happened to be there. sorry

ok i'm sleepy and having emotions and i'm not gonna grab my copy to pull the specific quotes but. you remember that scene in htn where mercy and augustine are arguing. i think it's the "you have rendered yourself unlovable" one. and augustine tells her that he could kill her if he wanted. he could do it without a second thought, could stub her out like a cigarette beneath his shoe, and john would forgive him? john would understand? augustine is his favorite, and they all know it, to such a degree that mercymorn ceases to matter in the slightest?

cool great. now remember that time when john killed mercy? without a second thought? stubbed her out beneath his shoe? and then he turned to augustine and he said, you understand why i did that, right? you know that you're my favorite? you know i love you? she doesn't matter. we can put this behind us. augustine, can't you forgive me?

and augustine says no, john. no, i can't.

cause i'm thinking about that and i'm tearing my hair out. i'm eating the drywall. her death was too far. it was too far and augustine couldn't forgive him. he was right about john, probably more right than he realized, but he could never have brought himself to do it. it was unforgiveable.

The NEED I have for Dios Apate Major. Not for sexy reasons but because of the 10,000 years of unbridled rage and grief that is Mercymorn vs Augustine "repression is jod's gift to man and so am I" vs John "I miss my friends who I can't remember and so ill just fuck the traumatized meat puppets i stuffed in their bodies". I want the layered hatred and regret in every moment. Mercy and Augustine thinking that this feels hauntingly familiar but they can't remember why, John pretending they are people he accidentally destroyed. The internal war Mercy faces of man vs. God coming to a peak, Augustine desperately shoving down the grief of their lost companions (there used to be so many and now there are three), John superimposing M- and A- over Mercy and Augustine because they may bear their faces but THEY ARE NOT THE SAME

I love the locked tomb because what other series has a polycule known by the plot two of them devised named dios apate major, the deception of God, and includes God and two people who tried to use his jizz to create a baby that would open a tomb by dying in order to set free his barbie shaped frankensteins monster with the power of a massacred planet to kill him
